Bon Tet

Happy Chinese New Year!

Or, as the holiday is called in Vietnam: Tet.

I'm a rat.

My hubby's a rat.

And now it's the year of the rat.

I'm hoping this spells a year of happy coincidences; however, according to Quang, who says according to Vietnamese lore, when the 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac cycle back around to you, it's supposed to be a bad year.

No way, I say. Your year should be your time to shine. I expect great things. Bring on the rat!

I have always wondered why the rat was chosen for the zodiac. It is a rodent that most people try to kill. You would think that they would find another item to represent the characteristics that are supposedly inherent in those born during those years. Any insight?

Maybe it's because rats are cunning and resourceful.

Aren't those admirable qualities?

LOL I propose that we petition to have them eliminate the rodent from the zodiac and replace it with something cuter...but what is cunning and resourceful?
